Jonathan Littel's novel, Les Bienvillantes, which translates as "The Kindly Ones" has found a US publisher. After a week of courting and vying among houses, Littel has decided to publish his 903-page novel about a Nazi SS officer with HarperCollins. We're very excited. Read the NY Times article here. GalleyCat has an interesting take as well.

Does anyone know when preliminary copies of Les Bienvillantes will be available in English? Harper has said Spring of 2008 for sales of the book in English if they are able to make their deadline.
Why does Littel not do the translation? He, better than anyone else, knows what he is intending to say.
Thanks,
